Your lab tests

B12 (cobalamin)
Essential for red blood cell production, nerve function, and DNA synthesis.
Your result is raised
When Levels are High
Usually from excess supplementation. High levels are rare but may be seen in liver disease or blood cancers (e.g., leukaemia or polycythemia).
Your result is low
When Levels are Low
Low levels are common and can cause fatigue, weakness, anaemia, and nerve problems (e.g., tingling in the hands and feet). Increasing evidence that B12 over 400 can improve cognitive function

Understanding trends in the results
Low levels may suggest malabsorption, particularly in conditions like pernicious anaemia, Crohn's disease, or after gastric surgery. Persistent low levels can lead to nerve damage and neurological symptoms. Regular monitoring is needed, particularly in older adults or those on long-term metformin or proton-pump inhibitors (PPIs).
